The Editor-in-Chief
The Weekly Beat is edited by Filthy Riché, known professionally as Al Gill Chenault. He previously worked as an A&R for Epic Records and served as a talent scout for Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment, working with America's Got Talent and the X-Factor.
Chenault also owns other urban media outlets, including RapCrunch and UrbFash, and hosts the YouTube series Before You Hit Next, where he continues to talk shop on music and the industry.
The Weekly Beat was built with a simple mission: to keep a steady pulse on the world of hip hop and rap, one week at a time. From artist spotlights that introduce rising talent to in-depth reviews of albums, mixtapes, and EPs, the site aims to be a trusted companion for listeners who want more than just surface-level coverage. Every week brings fresh editorial content, spanning trending news, culture discussions, and the occasional broader commentary, all filtered through a genuine love for the music and the people who make it.
At the heart of the publication is a commitment to discovery and honesty. The team listens with an insider's ear, highlighting both established names and emerging voices who are shaping the sound of the genre. Whether it's a melodic bounce from a Canadian newcomer, a bar-heavy street mix, or an experimental single that defies easy categorization, the coverage reflects the full spectrum of what's moving in rap today. This open-minded approach keeps the content fresh and the readership engaged week after week.
Beyond editorial, The Weekly Beat gives back to the creative community by releasing a free rap beat every week, giving producers and artists raw material to build on. This hands-on philosophy extends to broader cultural conversations, touching on everything from basketball and lifestyle to occasional political commentary. It's a space where music meets culture, where the new and the nostalgic sit side by side, and where readers can always find something worth pressing play on.
